Welcome!

Well, what started as a dad and his kids looking at some really amazing Christmas light displays on You -Tube (Richard Holdman was our inspiration) has grown into something quite remarkable. We said to ourselves, hey, we could do that, and, well, we did. Last year (2010) was our first synchronized lights to music christmas display, our house, 1232 Rigby Dr, Pickering, Ontario. This year it will be something more than that… So here are the basics on how it works – the lights are connected to controllers (Lightorama) that are receiving instructions from a computer that is running a program where the “choreography” has already been written. We only use LED lights- they cost more initially but draw very little electricity, in fact we use regular outlets, no special wiring. We wanted to be environmentally focussed and showcase what you can do with less electricity. Our music is broadcast through a low power FM transmitter (104.9 FM) so that you can listen to it on your car radio. We also have speakers outside that you can listen to, but not very loud, we like our neighbors. Basically, that is how it all works – tens of thousands of lights, hundreds of control channels, thousands of meters of connecting cords, hundreds of hours of programming and voila – a pretty neat Christmas light show. So what are you waiting for, come and listen to the lights – Rigby Lights!!

Did you know – because we only use LED lighting our power consumption is very low, we run all 4 houses on the equivalent of a dishwasher being run for 30 minutes a night! Our lights maybe red and white but our show is very green!
